Michael Fallis-Taylor

Managing Director of Express Lift Company and the subsidiaries

With 20 years of sales experience in the lift industry, Michael’s remit covers managing operations, business development, strategic planning, and job execution. 

A social media enthusiast, Michael leads employees to forge strong relationships with our customers to offer bespoke services in lift and escalator installation and maintenance.

“I am passionate about exceeding our customers’ expectations and that requires building partnerships with them and across our business to understand their needs and being agile in our response” he says. 

Michael is actively involved in his local community through charity fundraising events. Working in various offices and in the field, Michael, who is from West Yorkshire, enjoys walking his dog and spending time with his young children on the weekend.


Ian Rutherford

Managing Director of Axis Elevators

Ian’s leadership of Axis Elevators has culminated in the company’s enviable reputation for special ‘one off’ installations in London and the Midlands. Built from the ground up over thirty years, Ian says he wanted to be an entrepreneur because of his commitment to top customer service that leaves an impression. “We started with nothing and so developing the business contacts, the consultants, and your client base over the years, is a big part of the business.  We fight tooth and nail to retain our business,” he says. 

Axis Elevators was initially a modernisation company, transitioning into maintenance and installing new equipment in niche projects -  like the Willy Wonka style glass lift in the private home in Knightsbridge which featured on Channel 4’s Millionaires Mansion. Ian leads a team of 130 people  with skillsets in lift design, testing, and operational management to run the maintenance and repairs side of the business.

Axis Elevators became part of Express Lift Co in 2015. “We’re very customer focused,” says Ian. “The future is bright because of the expertise within each of the subsidiary companies. We’ve got all bases covered in the lift industry. Whether or not you’re a blue chip customer, if we can help out, we will.”


Mark Harding

Director at Abbey LiftCare

Responsible for 30 people covering service, repairs, modernisation work and operational management, Mark’s steering of the business led to it securing maintenance contracts from the NHS and commercial property companies in London who regularly praise our staff for high customer service levels.

“Customers can have direct contact from any level of management,” he says. “There have been occasions when I’ve done site meetings with customers who have 100 lifts in London and I’ve left that meeting and gone to a single customer, who has one lift and I’m in his flat having tea and biscuits – talking about football.” He believes a key element of the company’s success is developing fantastic relationships with customers and engineers.

Mark joined Abbey Liftcare in 2008 as a Service Technician and progressed through the organisation to being appointed Director in 2017. A lover of sports, he plays football with his family and goes fishing. 


Ryan Smith

Director at Triangle Lift Services 

Ryan Smith is the Director of Triangle Lift Services with 21 years of experience in independent lift companies, including working in Australia where he provided technical coverage in the Melbourne area on lift equipment.

A former service engineer, modernisation and Major Works manager at Triangle, Ryan is excited to be back at the company to build its profile in securing new wins and leading employees to exceed customers’ expectations. 

His prior role was as an Associate at Elevate Consulting where he provided technical and commercial advice to  retail and social housing clients on lifts, escalators, and moving walkways.

When he’s not at work, Ryan enjoys spending time with his family.

 


Steve Proffitt

Director at Foster + Cross

Steve began his career in Evans Lifts 35 years ago working within new equipment field installation which merged with Express Lifts in 1995. One of the oldest companies within the British lift industry, Evans Lifts was founded by two brothers in Leicester in 1919. One of its most famous installations was in the British History Museum. 

Steve assumed increasing responsibility, progressing to sales management and marketing roles. “I’ve enjoyed working with fantastic people and tackling interesting challenges head on,” says Steve. “The industry’s dynamics have changed so dramatically and now technology offers a wonderful opportunity to personalise our service offering and customer experience.”

Now, as Director of Express Lift Co. subsidiary Foster + Cross, Steve’s remit covers the P&L and growth of the business across a nationwide portfolio of customers. Based in the Midlands, the company’s reputation over the past hundred years is due to its high quality workmanship for all makes and models of lifts and escalators and relationships across the UK.


Paul Hordon

Director of PDERS and Major Works in Express Lift Co.

Paul’s knowledge and expertise spans installation, procurement, the drawing office, commercial, and manufacturing following a 24 year career within Express. He is responsible for teams in London and Leicester which collaborate on solutions for all types and styles of lifts to suit clients’ requirements and provide a high level of service to key accounts, such as local councils and high end retail clients.  

“We are in a unique position to offer the end user a product that suits their needs, working with the building or architect company through the design, installation, facilities management or single unmanned units for maintenance,” says Paul. “It is the end user focus that distinguishes us in a very demanding environment.”
